There are over a dozen golf courses in Guelph and even more in the surrounding area, offering lots of choices just off the 401 and not far from Brampton, Toronto, Kitchener, and Waterloo.
The Guelph Country Club first introduced golfing to the city of Guelph in 1912. It became a public course in 1999, but also offers memberships to new customers and longtime golfers who have loved playing the course for decades. The facility also includes year-round curling leagues, a banquet, pro shop with regular sales and golf instructions in Guelph.
Lorne Rubenstein of The Globe and Mail called it “The best-hidden secret in Southwestern Ontario.”
We’re not sure how much of a secret the Guelph Country Club is, but if you’re looking for some of the best golfing the city of Guelph has to offer, you’ve found it.
Also one of the most prestigious country clubs in Guelph is Cutten Fields, rated one of the top fifty golf courses in Ontario by OG Magazine in 2009. The beautiful members-only, 18- hole championship course was developed in 1931 and has remained open to offer a golfing experience unlike any other in the city of Guelph.
Victoria Park features two golf courses in Guelph, located just off Victoria Road. Victoria Golf Club West first opened in 1967 at par 61, spanning 3,700 yards with full banquet facilities, special events for members, as well as both individual game and package-based pricing if you plan on getting a few rounds in this summer. Victoria Golf Club East opened later in 1974 catering to more skilled golfers at par 71 and 6,500 yards. It remains one of the most challenging golf courses in Guelph.
Victoria Park also offers Guelph golfing lessons and clinics provided by their teaching professionals as well as summer leagues and camps for local golfers.
Guelph Lakes Golf and Country Club opened in 1998 and is an 18-hole championship public course spanning 6,500 yards. Rates are reasonable and there’s also an onsite pro shop.
If you’re looking for a bit of family fun, Gophers Glow in the Dark Indoor Mini-Putt is open year- round, located on Woodlawn Road. For outdoor mini-golf and driving ranges in Guelph, Club 6 on Concession Road 7 is open during golf season.
