Located just 25 kilometres north of Toronto, the town of Newmarket is renowned for its vast countryside and small-town feel, and for being easily accessible from all over the city.
There are two golf courses in Newmarket and several others in the surrounding area: St. Andrew’s Valley and Glenway Country Club are both public Newmarket golf courses in the immediate area.
Glenway Country Club is the newest of the two golf courses in Newmarket. Alone, it offers 150 acres and 18 holes designed for players of all skill sets. St. Andrew’s is a smaller 18-hole course, equally welcoming to both amateurs and more experienced golfers. It also features a putting green and chipping course, as well as an on-site Newmarket driving range.
More Newmarket area golf courses can be found just outside of the town itself, including the public Cardinal Golf Club to the west in what is technically King Township. Just minutes from Newmarket, the public golf course is very amateur-friendly, also featuring a cool mini putt course for family fun.
Another Newmarket area golf course, the Silver Lakes Golf and Country Club is just north of town in East Gwillimbury. It was rated one of the top ten golf courses in the GTA by Ontario Golf Magazine and offers 18 holes of championship golf as well as a unique “Aqua Range,” a practice facility, pro shop, and more. Just minutes from there, the Shawneeki Golf Club is another Newmarket area golf course just northeast of town.
Because of Southern Ontario’s generally cool climate, golfing in Newmarket usually runs from early spring to late fall as golfers brave the weather for as long as possible. Newmarket golf lessons are also available at various courses by booking with them directly.
A sprawling countryside retreat just north of Toronto, Newmarket is an easy getaway for the urban golfer and local residents who make most of the golf season.
