On the Canadian side of the Blue Water Bridge, Sarnia has long been a popular vacation spot for those coming from the Port Huron area and northern Michigan, as well as Windsor, Detroit and London, which are all about an hour and a half away.

Golfing in Sarnia is a longstanding tradition, birthplace of Canadian golf legend Mike Weir. As soon as visitors cross the bridge, they’re presented with a few Sarnia golf courses well known amongst pro’s, golf enthusiasts and casual golfers all the same.

The Sarnia Golf and Curling Club was established in 1866, although the golf course wasn’t built until 1907. The exclusive, private course is for members-only but well worth it for those living in and around the Sarnia area, including those who hop the border regularly just for it.

Huron Oaks Golf Club opened in 1938 to become one of Southern Ontario’s prestigious golf courses. The spectacular 18-hole championship style course has hosted some of the world’s best, including local Mike Weir as well as the Canadian Tour’s Bayer Championship. It’s a public course with memberships also available.

The Sawmill Creek Golf Resort and Spa welcomes both members and non-members to play its 18-hole, par 71 course. Facilities include a bed and breakfast for overnight accommodations, pro shop and Sarnia golf lessons provided by their staff. Freedom Oaks Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 72 course spanning 2951 yards. It’s an affordable and more casual course, if you’re looking for a public golf course in Sarnia.

There are several nine-hole golf courses in Sarnia. The Holiday Inn at 1498 Venetian Blvd. has its own golf course. It’s just nine holes, but it’s well maintained and well managed, and has been in operation since 1972. Another nine-hole golf course in Sarnia is Sunset Golf, located on London Line. The Confederation Country Club is also nine holes, located at 2218 Confederation Road.

There are more Sarnia area golf courses nearby including the town of Forest, Oil Springs, Brights Grove, and more.

Several courses feature onsite driving ranges in Sarnia to work on your long game, and there are mini-putts in Sarnia for your short game as well. Practice facilities are pretty much limited to on-season, though with no Sarnia golf domes or indoor driving ranges currently available. We’re keeping our fingers crossed…
